Williamson seeks career third Wild West Shootout title

first_imgBy Ben DeatherageEUGENE, Ore. – One of the top contenders to challenge for the fifth annual Wild West Modified Shootout crown is Eugene’s Jesse Williamson. The current Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified campaign has treated him well with four feature wins in only a handful of starts. Two Modified main events have been won in the Modifieds at Cottage Grove Speedway while he also has won at the historic 1/4-mile clay oval in a late model.“It has been a good year so far,” said Williamson. “We’ve been fast every time but in a couple of races we’ve broke when contending for the win.”Williamson is the 2012 and 2013 Wild West Modified Shootout champion and is the only driver to repeat a Speedweek crown. Add to his résumé four Cottage Grove Modified Nationals, a Shipwreck Beads Northwest Modified Nationals crown and last year’s Lon Skinner Memorial victory at Southern Oregon Speedway. He is the all-time leading winner in the history of the Wild West Modified Shootout with six but unfortunately did not manage to win during the 2014 tour. Williamson remains very confident that can return to victory lane during the upcoming Speedweek.“We’ve been working really hard on the car,” he said. “I feel like we are the most prepared we have ever been for a Speedweek.”All seven Speedweek features pay $1,000 to win, a minimum of $100 to start and are Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events. Job not done yet – Pearson

first_img Leicester host Southampton on Saturday and then face fixtures against relegation rivals Sunderland and QPR. Pearson, nominated for the April manager of the month award on the back of his side’s upturn in form recently, has warned his players that the job is not done yet. ”I’m very pleased with how we’ve played, but there’s a lot of hard work left – it’s not done, not at all,”the Foxes boss said. ”Of course it helps when things go your way elsewhere, but you can’t bank on that. We can’t leave the field with regrets.” Meanwhile, Pearson refused to be drawn on speculation linking winger Anthony Knockaert with a switch to Belgian club Standard Liège. The 23-year-old has been out of favour this season but his stock is still high in Europe after making 42 appearances and scoring five goals during last year’s Championship-winning campaign. Knockaert’s contract expires in the summer and, according to reports, Standard Liege are confident of luring him away despite the Leicester hierarchy hoping he will sign a new deal until 2017. Knockaert joined Leicester from French side Guingamp in 2012 but he has made just nine Premier League appearances this term – and none since mid-January. Press Association Five wins in the last six matches has lifted the Foxes out of the drop zone, with three games remaining. Only a couple of months ago, Pearson’s men were bottom of the table and being written off. When asked about talk of the player leaving, Pearson responded: ”I can’t confirm anything. ”I have heard the speculation but I can’t confirm it because the football club have had no formal confirmation on that. That’s all I can say on that.” Leicester have been handed a fitness boost ahead of the visit of Southampton with David Nugent back in the reckoning after a calf problem. Only midfielder Andy King will definitely be missing because of a hamstring injury, while both Jamie Vardy and Marcin Wasilewski should play despite foot problems. Leonardo Ulloa is also okay to play despite having an ankle issue. ”I would rule Andy King out but he has made very good progress,” Pearson said. ”He has done quite a bit of training with the group. If circumstances were slightly different then there would be a chance of maybe him being involved. ”He is an important player for us so we don’t feel it is in anyone’s interest to push him too much at this stage, so we’ll rule him out just on that basis. ”Everybody else really looks like they’ll be available for the weekend. ”Nugent is back into the reckoning which is a big plus for us. ‘With Vardy it’s a similar sort of situation as it’s been for a few weeks. We’re trying to manage the load. ”We’ve had a free week so it’s given us a bit of time to give him a bit more of a rest. ”He’ll go into the preparation for the game in the same way that he has for the last few games. ”Ulloa is training. We’ve had a few bumps and bruises, but nothing that’s not manageable. ”With Marcin, we could afford to take him off last week because we were in a pretty strong position during last week’s game. ”It’s always preferable if you can do that during games to protect players. Again, he’s available.” Leicester manager Nigel Pearson knows plenty of hard work still lies ahead as his side look to retain their Barclays Premier League status.last_img read more

IRELAND’S MOST SPECTACULAR DARKNESS INTO LIGHT 5K SET FOR ARRANMORE

first_imgArranmore Island is hosting it’s first ever Darkness Into Light 5k walk/run this year on May 7.All proceeds go to Pieta House which is a prevention centre for self harm and suicide. There are 110 venues around the country – but Arranmore is set to have the most spectacular setting. “There were posters about another place hosting darkness into light on the island last year. It occurred to me why shouldn’t we have our own 5k? I made sure we were going to have one the following year (this year),” said organiser Denis O’Donnell.“Now we have a strong committee and support from the community to go ahead and have a great event. Thankfully suicide hasn’t been a problem on the island. But mental health issues are common. That’s where it all can start if the right help isn’t sought.“I think most people would know someone with a mental health problem. There has been a big stigma about mental health. But all that is changing due to Pieta House and the Darkness Into Light event. It’s a great way to get people talking and doing something positive for a worthy cause.”Online registration for the event has started today. We will also be having registration on the island up to the event. People from the mainland who want to attend can register online. Soon participants can register at both booking offices for the red and blue Arranmore Ferries. Ferries will be coming into the island on the morning in time for the 5k and returning back out afterwards.Said Denis: “Weather can’t be guaranteed in this country But if the weather is good Arranmore could be the most beautiful scenic route anywhere!”Register here:http://dil.pieta.ie/venues/venue-view/darkness-into-light-arranmore-islandFollow us on Facebook and twitterhttps://www.facebook.com/darknessintolightarainnmhor/ https://twitter.com/DILArainnMhorIRELAND’S MOST SPECTACULAR DARKNESS INTO LIGHT 5K SET FOR ARRANMORE was last modified: March 7th, 2016 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:5karranmoreDarkness into Lightlast_img read more
