Report Apple Devices Dominate Market Share for Business Professionals

first_imgCorporate customers overwhelmingly prefer Apple devices to any other mobile or tablet technology, new data from enterprise mobility management firm Good Technology shows. When analyzing the mobile devices activated by corporate customers in the final quarter of 2012, the results showed Apple as the “clear winner among enterprise users, claiming the top five spots for device activations, and more than 90 percent of all tablet activations.”According to the results, the iPhone 5 was the most popular device in Q4, representing about 32 percent of all activations for the quarter—making it the leading device for enterprise activations of any iOS, Android or Windows Phone model. As the chart below shows, Android devices lag considerably when compared to Apple products. Windows device activations represented only 0.5 percent of activations in Q4 2012. Other findings in the study include:iOS tablets continue to hold market dominance, accounting for 21.1 percent of activations—Android tablets came in at 1.5 percent of total activations. Android tablets are gaining some momentum. Between Q1 and the end of Q4 2012, Android tablet activations jumped from 2.7 percent to nearly 7 percent of total activations. Good attributes this spike in part to the rise of hybrid phone-tablet devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note.center_img The financial services industry led enterprise mobile device activations—averaging 35 percent of all activations in Q4 2012. Business and professional services represented the second highest percentage at 19.4 percent, with wholesale and retail services coming in third at just 5.6 percent. The iOS platform garnered nearly 77 percent of total device activations in Q4 2012, up from about 71 percent for the same period in 2011. Before today, you’d have to ask the aftermarket for help, but now, Ford has an in-house solution.Ford on Wednesday unveiled the Ranger FX2 Package. As the name suggests, this optional package applies to 2WD Rangers, offering up a bit more off-road-related equipment, along with a few aesthetic enhancements. It’s not as all-inclusive as the FX4 upgrade, but it’s a fair bit more affordable. Ford says it’s “aimed more at urban markets,” probably because those truly keen on hitting the rough stuff will opt for a 4WD Ranger.The FX2 Package starts off with a set of 17-inch off-road tires, although 18s are also available, along with a FX2 badge for the side of the bed. The air dam is removed, and there’s a new front underbody guard in its place. Behind the body, there’s an electronically locking rear differential and off-road-tuned suspension. The package is capped off with Ford’s off-road gauge cluster display, which shows vehicle pitch, roll and yaw.The FX4 equipment group, by comparison, is a bit more involved. That one also includes tow hooks and additional skid plates. It also includes the Terrain Management System, which changes vehicle parameters based on what’s under the wheels, whether it’s mud, sand, gravel or snow. The FX4 package also includes Trail Control, which holds a preselected speed over various types of terrain.But, for its price, the FX2 package is a solid deal. All that kit will only cost $595, compared with the FX4’s $1,295 price tag. This upgrade can be ordered at dealers now, with deliveries expected to commence later this year. Gold Prices Could Fall Further over Next 12 Months

China’s gold reserves were substantially below expectations and the upside of stock markets has taken the attention of investors there away from gold to equities,” G Chokkalingam, founder of Equinomics Research & Advisory, told NDTV Profit.Chokkalingam expects the gold prices to decline further by 10-15% over the next 12 months.On Friday, China reported that its gold reserves rose to 1,658 tonnes by the end of June, up 57% since April 2009.Besides, the safe-haven demand of gold remained weak in recent weeks despite increased concerns over debt crisis in Greece and a crash in Chinese equity markets.Gold prices did not gain much even though there was a significant sell-off in other asset markets before the debt-ridden Greece got bailed out for the third time last week.The lacklustre performance of the metal during the peak of Greek debt crisis this month had raised concerns over its status as safe-haven.”Gold has failed to benefit as much as we (and others) had anticipated from safe-haven demand, despite the catalysts of the Greek crisis and China’s equity crash,” said Capital Economics.A strengthening dollar in the wake of growing expectations over rate hike by the US Federal Reserve in September is also a big concern for the gold prices in the coming months.”If gold prices fall below $1,050 (an ounce), then there will be more pressure on gold prices. It simply adapts to your style of game play and it makes a set of educated guesses about what you are going to do next. Then it takes its best guess and declares what it thinks will be the winning move. When you play on the the veteran mode, the system has not only your own play style data to work from, but it also has access to data from thousands of games that it has played against other real people. That data is used in a process of recall and comparison to determine what its next move should be. Researchers find a way to close both loopholes in testing entanglement with

first_img More information: Experimental loophole-free violation of a Bell inequality using entangled electron spins separated by 1.3 km, arXiv:1508.05949 [quant-ph] arxiv.org/abs/1508.05949AbstractFor more than 80 years, the counterintuitive predictions of quantum theory have stimulated debate about the nature of reality. In his seminal work, John Bell proved that no theory of nature that obeys locality and realism can reproduce all the predictions of quantum theory. Bell showed that in any local realist theory the correlations between distant measurements satisfy an inequality and, moreover, that this inequality can be violated according to quantum theory. This provided a recipe for experimental tests of the fundamental principles underlying the laws of nature. In the past decades, numerous ingenious Bell inequality tests have been reported. However, because of experimental limitations, all experiments to date required additional assumptions to obtain a contradiction with local realism, resulting in loopholes. Here we report on a Bell experiment that is free of any such additional assumption and thus directly tests the principles underlying Bell’s inequality. We employ an event-ready scheme that enables the generation of high-fidelity entanglement between distant electron spins. Efficient spin readout avoids the fair sampling assumption (detection loophole), while the use of fast random basis selection and readout combined with a spatial separation of 1.3 km ensure the required locality conditions. We perform 245 trials testing the CHSH-Bell inequality S≤2 and find S=2.42±0.20. A null hypothesis test yields a probability of p=0.039 that a local-realist model for space-like separated sites produces data with a violation at least as large as observed, even when allowing for memory in the devices. This result rules out large classes of local realist theories, and paves the way for implementing device-independent quantum-secure communication and randomness certification. That was one of the loopholes described by John Bell, who famously came up with a way to prove mathematically that it should be possible to distinguish between quantum mechanics and so-called hidden variables. If such variables existed, he noted, measurements of certain results would have to be less than a critical value. If an experiment could be run that violated that inequality, that would “prove” that quantum mechanics has at least some non-local characteristics. Another loophole, it has been noted, occurs because single photons are difficult to measure—some get lost during transmission, particularly if sending them at a great enough distance to overcome the first loophole, making experimental results difficult to verify. In this new experiment, led by Ronald Hanson, the researchers set about closing both loopholes, which would theoretically shut the door on local realism. They set up two stations for creating photons entangled with an electron spin, far enough apart to close the first loophole. The entangled photons were all sent to a common third location via fiber cable where they were entangled under just the right conditions and measured (and tested for measurement with their entangled mate back at the original site). Knowing that the process would be highly inefficient, they arranged for the whole experiment to be repeated, over and over—at the end of nine days they had just 245 successes, but that was enough to meet Bell’s inequality rule, showing that there was no hidden variable allowing for communication between entangled pairs—”proving” that local realism does not always apply in the quantum world.last_img read more
