Adityanath asks BJP functionaries to shun contracts

first_imgUttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath Yogi today asked all BJP office bearers and public representatives not to undertake any contractual work and instead monitor them for effective execution. He said BJP’s unprecedented win the recent Assembly elections had only increased the responsibilities of the party and its workers.“No office bearer of the party or any public representative should undertake any contractual work (thekedaari). They should rather monitor them. And, if they find any discrepancy, they can inform me, so that action could be taken immediately against the guilty,” he said.Addressing people at the BJP’s regional office on the second day of his Gorakhpur visit, he said, “After victory, a number of important works have to be accomplished. The people of the state have reposed their faith in us, and the onus is on us to meet their expectations, while ensuring accountability of our actions.”Adityanath also laid stress on sense of responsibility and accountibility among his ministerial colleagues. Also Read 80% of new U.P. MLAs are crorepatis  “I am the CM. (Surya Pratap) Shahi ji is Cabinet minister. But the post of CM or Cabinet Minister is not meant for flaunting. In fact, it is an indicator of one’s responsibility and accountability towards the public, which elected you with an overwhelming majority,” he said, pointing towards some ministers present there.‘Work 20 hours a day or leave’The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, who is still the local MP, urged the party to gear up for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.“In the next two years, you have to work tirelessly, irrespective of the fact that there is sunshine, rain or biting cold. Efforts should be made to ensure that the welfare schemes of the Centre percolate to the last strata of the society, and needy people are able to avail its benefits,” he said, amidst a thunderous applause from the audience.Underscoring the need for improved work culture, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also said people who were prepared to work for 18-20 hours a day are “most welcome” to join him, the rest are free to leave.“Time has come that we should work 18-20 hours a day. There no time for any entertainment (mauj masti),” he said.He also urged the people to help him break the negative image of UP.“For the past few years Uttar Pradesh has been defined as a state from whose boundaries begins darkness, from where the pot-holed roads begin and the place from where the women start to feel insecure. I was to break this mindset,” he said, and added that he wants to make UP a place, where women feel safe and secure.‘Doors must be open to the public’Adityanath said, “I would like to assure that in the next two months, people would come to know how a state government should work. I have got an opportunity to clean the mess (kachdaa saaf karne kaa maukaa milaa hai), and I will do it.”He also advised his ministers that they should be accessible to the public. “The doors of your house and office must remain open to the public. This would ensure that the government is able to reach to the last person of the society. No one would go to bed empty stomach and money would not be a constraint in marriage of any girl,” he said.Referring to the acid attack on a woman from Rae Bareli, Adityanath, said, “The officials are working on ‘puraanaa dharraa’ (old style). I went to KGMU to inquire about the well being of the woman and gave them ultimatum that everything must be done in the next couple of hours.”‘No place for criminals’He also referred to the Agra loot, which was worked out.“There is no place for those who give patronage to the gooda elements, mafia, criminal and other rogue elements. They have the option of leaving UP or else they would land in places designated for them (jails),” he said, while hinting at massive revamping of law and order. He also talked about people committing electricity theft facing the music. “The situation has already improved in Gorakhpur and it would soon improve in the state as well,” he said.“If you find any discrepancy or anomaly, just message me the relevant details. I will ensure action,” he said.last_img read more

In the second session, the Saurashtra right-hander switched gears to reach 89 off 140 deliveries at tea and finished unbeaten on 128 at stumps.Rahane, on the other hand, played the perfect second fiddle to Pujara to end his 10-match wait for what was his 9th Test hundred, and sixth outside India. He got to his ton, second against the islanders, off 151 deliveries when he pushed Rangana Herath for a single on the off.last_img read more

The LifeChanging Magic of Being Messy

first_imgAs a stereotypically “messy” person myself, I’ve received my own share of scorn. Living in a boarding school, I’m obligated to keep my room nice and tidy, ready for visitors and as a model to underclassmen. Monday room inspections are the norm, and faculty members have sometimes passively, sometimes aggressively, urged my roommate and me to clean up. For these purposes, I used to harbor a 24 x 24 x 24 cardboard box in which I’d stuff everything on Monday mornings and empty it out later that evening. Now, I just throw everything downstairs into the communal storage. Out of sight, out of mind. You might have a “messy” friend or family member. You can’t help but sigh at the chaos of their room — clean and dirty laundry mixed together. Odds are it’ll be difficult to walk two feet without encountering an empty chip bag. Gross? Yes. Bad? Not necessarily. As much judgment as we get for our clutter, research has shown that messiness can be a sign of creativity and openness. In the NYT article “It’s Not ‘Mess.’ It’s Creativity,” Kathleen D. Vohs’ study of messiness serves as a rare champion for us less-than-neat people. In her study, she gathered a group of subjects in a tidy room and another in a messy room. When each subject had to choose between a “classic” or “new” smoothie on a fake menu, the subjects in the tidy room chose “classic” while subjects in the messy room chose the “new” smoothies. This shows that “people greatly preferred convention in the tidy room and novelty in the messy room.” In addition, Vohs revealed that messy people were more creative. So, what does this mean? Guess What TimeSaving Apps Dont Really Save You Much Time

first_img The universe has exploded with apps. There are over 1 million available for Apple products and for Android devices: recipe apps, fitness apps, productivity apps, shopping apps. Many claim they will streamline your life and save that most precious commodity: time. But will they? Can they?“So many people are over-busy and overwhelmed. We’re looking for things outside of ourselves to ease our burden,” says Ali Davies, a Vancouver-based personal effectiveness coach who works with clients on time management issues. She almost never recommends a productivity app to a client. In fact, she often recommends the opposite, for several reasons.First, because there are so many of them, many apps focus on something very specific. “There are no barriers to entry,” says Bob O’Donnell, who studies the technology marketplace as founder and chief analyst of TECHnalysis Research. To make a viable product in a crowded eco-system, a developer “wants to have something unique, that sticks out, that focuses on a very specific issue.”Since these niches are, well, small, problems that even popular apps attempt to solve may not be huge issues that devour people’s time. For instance, if you’re in a hotel in a new city, it’s nice to know there’s a good pizza place nearby. But your hotel concierge can tell you that too. A waiter can tell you what entrees other diners have enjoyed. It may be marginally more efficient to look at a shared grocery list compared with calling your spouse to ask if she needs anything, but in most people’s lives, saving two minutes doesn’t help much. You’ll spend those additional two minutes in your inbox. You could spend your life in your inbox. How much more pleasant to call your spouse instead? To be sure, plenty of people do swear by their apps. If you’re in an unfamiliar city, Google Maps is helpful; the hotel concierge can give you directions but isn’t going to tag along in your car. Banking apps that let you take pictures of checks to deposit them save a drive to the branch. If you’re in a store and want to purchase an item, an app that generates coupons can save you money. In the long run, that amounts to saving time as well. While many app-makers aim for niches, others have realized that being all-inclusive is likely more helpful. Journl, a productivity app that originated in the UK, combines list making, calendars, notes, etc., with the goal of getting people out of hybrid systems: a calendar one place, random post-it notes on a desk, lists in a separate app, and so forth. “We’re replacing all that chaos with a bit of clarity and calm,” says Lina Hansson, Journl’s chief marketing officer. This goal of minimizing the total number of apps you use is important for saving time, because even if any one app has benefit, volume produces a cost in clutter and complication. “There are so many of them, how can you possibly keep track of them?” O’Donnell asks. Setting up an app takes time, as does adjusting your life to the app’s process. “If you find one that works for your style, great,” he says, “but that’s tough.”Some people’s styles aren’t technical, which means an app will never be intuitive. “My wife swears by her paper list,” O’Donnell says. I asked which app this “PaperList” was, and he said, “No, I mean putting things on a piece of paper.” People get a smartphone and think “therefore I must have apps, therefore I must use them for everything,” but that’s not true. About 22% of people who download and use any given app once never use it again. Only about half of downloaders will use an app more than four times. Finally here’s the biggest issue with using apps to save time: we are easily distracted. “It’s not always the app itself,” Davies says. “It’s the behavior it triggers.” You go into your to-do list app with the best intentions of crossing something off. But with device in hand, you check email and get sucked into a crisis that doesn’t concern you. Or you pop over to Pinterest and spend the next 45 minutes looking at Halloween costumes. Whatever time saved is dwarfed by that loss.Davies recommends two strategies to her clients. First, “just log where all your time is going.” You might discover that the 20 minutes you spend comparing your stats to a friend’s on a fitness app could have been used to actually exercise.Second, you might try deleting everything that’s not essential. Then see what you choose to add back. Davies did this with everything but a map app. Clients who’ve made a similar choice “have reported the significant amounts of free time they have,” she says. When your phone is less interesting, you look at it less. And, overall, that can make you feel like you have all the time in the world. first_imgReactOS, the free and open source “ Windows-like” operating system has been released as a new version. ReactOS 0.4.9 comes with system stability and general consistency improvements such as Self-hosting, shell improvements, FastFAT crash fixes and more. As they target a newer release every three months, more focus is given on improvements with fewer headliner changes. ReactOS is now capable of Self-Hosting Self-hosting is a process of building an OS on an OS. Self-hosting although considered to be a milestone in any OS’ maturity, is associated with many challenges of its own. First, compiling any large codebase requires high memory usage and storage I/O stressing the operating system. Scheduling is also stressed, as modern build systems in general attempt to produce multiple compilation processes to speed up the build process. ReactOS featured self-hosting in an older version. However, changes brought by subsequent releases, such as the reworking of the kernel, made this self-hosting process non-existent. However, with the recent changes made to the filesystem, Self-hosting is now completely established in the 0.4.9 release. The open source FreeBSD project’s implementation of qsort played a major role in achieving this. Stability brought in by fixing FastFAT crashes ReactOS had significant resource leakages caused by the FastFAT driver. This leakage was eating up the common cache to the point where attempts to copy large files would result in a crash. The new version fixes the FastFAT driver’s behavior by adding in write throttling support and restraining its usage of the cache. A conservative usage of the cache may slow the system a bit during IO operations. However, it ensures that resources remain available to service for large IO operations instead of crashing like before. FastFAT driver also featured a complete rewrite of the support for dirty volumes greatly reducing the chance of file corruptions. This will protect the system from becoming unusable after a crash. Shell Improvements & Features Shell has also received several upgrades. It now has a built-in zipfldr (Zip Folder) extension. With this, ReactOS can also uncompress zipped files without needing to install third-party tools to accomplish it. It also allows users to now choose whether to move, copy, or link a file or folder when they drag it with the right mouse button. Some other new improvements A new mouse properties dialog in the GUI component of the ReactOS installer The inclusion of RAPPS, the gateway program used for getting various applications installed on ReactOS. With this Unicode support, ReactOS can now easily support many different languages. ReactOS can now present itself as Windows 8.1 with the Version APIs. These are just a select few major updates.
